Singer Jaywon Calls Out Organisers On Instagram, Says Show Is A Scam
Just few days after the kick-off of the on-going fourth season of the reality show, Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) with 21 housemates, popular singer, Iledare Oluwajuwonlo, well known as Jaywon Juwonlo, has expressed distrust over the reality show.
The Odun Yi (This Year) singer called out the organisers of the show, Multichoice Africa, in a post on Instagram through his handle, saying the selection process of the housemates is not free and fair, as only who are bankable housemates are picked.
“Even Big Brother na Scam. See him selection! He selected people he can invest on and make cool money back from. My brother hustle ooo, so you no dey go audition to warm their bench,” he wrote.
Recalled that audition for this year’s edition of the reality show, which held earlier this year, attracted public debate as thousands of young Nigerians thronged the venues of the auditions in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Calabar, Ibadan, Benin and Warri to fight for a spot in the reality TV game show.
A massive crowd, who gathered as early as 6.00a.m., besieged the Lagos audition centre, and there were online videos and pictures that showed the wannabe BBNaija housemates scaling gates, quarrelling and fighting while waiting to be auditioned for the show.
While the race to the Big Brother House ended months ago, the selected housemates were revealed on Sunday, June 30, when this year’s edition officially began on a note that could be considered not too enthralling when compared to past editions.
Details on how and why the participating housemates were chosen is yet to be disclosed by the organizers. However, checks on the profiles of the housemates showed that most of them are either social media celebrities who had schooled or worked abroad.
This year’s edition themed Pepper Dem, boast of the highest number of housemates in the history of the show so far, as Season 3 (2017 edition), which was tagged See Gobe had 14 housemates, while Season 4 (2018 edition) Double Wahala had 20 housemates. Also, this is the first time the show will be shot entirely in Nigeria and winner walk home with N60 million as prize money.
The housemates include Avala (30) from Ogun State; Khafi (29) from Ekiti, who is a police officer in London; Omashola (29) from Delta; Frodd (28), Ella (30), Jeff (30) from Anambra; Ike (26), Mercy (26), Esther (22), Thelma (26) from Imo; Isilomo (27) from Edo and Tuoyo (24), a fitness trainer, psychotherapist and part-time stripper.
Others are Nelson (26), Tacha (23) from Rivers; Sir Dee (28), a banker from Kogi; Gedoni (31) from Cross River; Diane (23) from Kaduna; Seyi (30), a grandson of Obafemi Awolowo; and Mike 28 from Lagos but based in Manchester, United Kingdom.
