Glo excites in new TVC with Mama G, Sola Sobowale

The new television commercial of Nigeria’s foremost telecommunications company, Globacom, has established the company’s mastery of drama-styled television commercials.

The TVC entitled Baby Babble features drama icons Sola Sobowale, alias “Toyin Tomato” and Patience Ozokwor, popularly known as “Mama Gee”.

Baby Babble pits Sola Sobowale against Patience Ozokwor in a comical competition for the attention of a crying baby strapped to the back of a fellow patron of a convenience store. The mother of the baby is done with her shopping and is checking out at the counter while her bored baby is crying on her shoulder.

The duo of Sola and Patience, who had previously been established as highly competitive neighbours who love to needle each other for the sheer fun of it, typically carry their competition into the aisle of the convenience store.

They compete with each other on who will get to the cashier first and saw the crying baby while waiting for their turn to be attended to by the cashier. They diss each other as they compete to get the baby to stop crying.

In order to gain an upper hand, Patience steps aside and calls a lady at home, who is either her daughter or daughter-in-law to send her a cartoon. She sends it and Patience showed the video on her iPad to the crying baby who immediately stops crying and starts gurgling with excitement.

With humour and first-class acting, Globacom has managed to highlight the exceptional speed of the company’s 4G network as well as its quality. The request for a video clip, the actual sending of the video and the entertainment of the crying baby, all happened in the short time it takes for the mother of the baby to pay for what she bought at the convenience store.

The adorable baby cast in the TVC would also draw the admiration of many television watchers. The crew behind the scene must have done tons of work to have the exciting outcome achieved in the TVC.
