Our consistency is built on integrity, professionalism, accountability, excellence and client trust. In fiduciary services, trust is everything. Clients are entrusting you with not just assets, but their long-term intentions, family expectations and legacy aspirations. Over the years, we have strengthened our internal governance systems, compliance culture, risk management processes and operational efficiency. We also place significant emphasis on technology, people development and ethical standards, ensuring that every member of our team understands the importance of transparency and diligence in every transaction we undertake.
How do you ensure the highest level of trust and protection for clients’ assets in an increasingly complex financial landscape?
We achieve this through robust governance frameworks, regulatory compliance, strong risk management systems and continuous monitoring of transactions and trust structures. We understand that the financial landscape is becoming increasingly complex, so remaining proactive is critical. We continuously review our processes, adopt global best practices and leverage technology to enhance transparency, reporting, and operational efficiency. Our objective is always to safeguard clients’ interests while delivering long-term value.
What distinguishes Meristem Trustees Limited from other firms in the same space?
What sets us apart is our ability to combine technical expertise with a personalised approach to client service. We are intentional about understanding the unique realities of every client and designing solutions that align with their long-term objectives, not just their immediate needs. A few months ago, we launched the Special Needs Trust, a deeply personal and impactful solution designed to help parents and guardians create sustainable long-term funding structures for loved ones who are neurodivergent, vulnerable or living with disabilities. Additionally, our strong institutional culture, experienced team of professionals, commitment to innovation, and the collaborative strength of the Meristem Group position us uniquely within the industry. Beyond transactions, we are focused on building enduring relationships founded on trust, excellence, and shared purpose.
How are you leveraging technology and innovation to enhance service delivery and client experience?
Technology and innovation are central to our growth strategy. As client expectations evolve, we recognise that service delivery must also evolve. We are continuously improving our digital processes to enhance efficiency, responsiveness and client engagement. This includes automation of internal processes, improved reporting systems, digital communication channels, and data management solutions that strengthen operational effectiveness. For us, innovation is not limited to technology; it is also about rethinking how fiduciary solutions are structured and delivered in a way that is simpler, smarter and more responsive to client needs.
Tell us some landmark projects that highlight Meristem Trustees’ expertise and impact in the industry?
For us, landmark transactions are never just deals on paper, they are deeply personal milestones in people’s lives and legacies. What stands out most for us is the privilege of helping families translate their intentions into lasting impact. Be it preserving family wealth across generations, ensuring continuity of a patriarch or matriarch’s vision, protecting vulnerable beneficiaries, or structuring succession for complex business holdings, each project begins with one constant, understanding what a family ultimately hopes to preserve long after they are gone. We take pride in transactions where trusts have enabled harmony where there could have been conflict, stability where there was complexity and continuity where there was risk of disruption. We are honored each time a family allows us walk that journey with them, helping them turn aspirations into enduring structures that protect, preserve and purposefully deploy wealth for generations to come.
How does Meristem Trustees contribute to the broader financial ecosystem and economic development in Nigeria?
We contribute to financial market stability and investor confidence by providing transparent fiduciary structures that support investment, financing and wealth preservation. We play an important role in facilitating capital market transactions, supporting infrastructure financing and strengthening governance structures that enhance institutional credibility and investor protection. Through our services, we also promote intergenerational wealth transfer and sustainable financial planning for individuals and businesses. Strong fiduciary institutions are essential to building stable economies, and we remain committed to contributing meaningfully to Nigeria’s financial development.
Looking ahead, what strategic priorities will drive the growth and expansion of Meristem Trustees Limited in the next few years?
Our strategic priorities include innovation, digital transformation, service expansion, talent development and deepening client engagement. We are particularly focused on strengthening wealth preservation and estate planning offerings while also expanding our corporate and public trust solutions in response to evolving market needs. We will continue to reinforce our strategic partnerships, explore emerging opportunities within the financial services ecosystem and continue delivering solutions that address evolving client and market needs. Most importantly, we remain committed to maintaining the trust and confidence that clients have placed in the Meristem brand.
What inspired your passion for fiduciary services and wealth preservation and how has this passion evolved over the years?
My passion for fiduciary services comes from understanding the importance of continuity, protection and legacy. Wealth is not simply about accumulation; it is about stewardship. It is about ensuring that value is preserved, properly governed and transferred responsibly across generations. Over the years, that passion has evolved into a deeper appreciation for the role fiduciary institutions play in creating stability for families, businesses and institutions. Seeing the peace of mind that well-structured trust arrangements can provide continues to inspire the work I do.
What have been some of the biggest challenges you have faced as a leader and how did you navigate them?
One of the realities of leadership is that women often have to work harder to prove competence in highly competitive environments. There can also be unspoken expectations around balancing professional excellence with personal responsibilities and navigating that balance requires intentionality and discipline. I have navigated these challenges through resilience, preparation, continuous self-development and maintaining a strong support system. I have learned to focus less on proving myself and more on consistently delivering value and results. I also believe confidence and authenticity are important. Women should not feel pressured to diminish themselves in order to lead effectively.
What is your approach to innovation in structuring bespoke trust and investment solutions for clients?
At Meristem Trustees, innovation begins with understanding the unique objectives and realities of each client. We recognise that every client’s situation is different, so our approach is intentionally solution-driven and highly tailored. We combine legal, financial and operational expertise to develop practical and flexible trust structures that address modern realities, including succession planning, investment protection, transaction security and wealth transfer. Our ability to adapt, think creatively and anticipate evolving client needs allows us deliver solutions that are both practical and sustainable.
What role does collaboration play in delivering value-added solutions to clients?
Collaboration within the Meristem Group is central to how we deliver value-added solutions to clients. While other business units within the group focus on growing and optimising wealth through investment management, capital markets and financial advisory services, we at Meristem Trustees ensure that such wealth is seamlessly preserved, structured and efficiently transferred in line with clients’ long-term intentions. This synergy allows us serve clients more holistically. Wealth creation and wealth preservation are not treated as separate conversations but as interconnected stages of a single journey. By working closely with our sister entities, we are able to align investment strategies with succession planning objectives, ensuring assets are not only grown but also protected and transitioned in a manner that reflects each client’s wishes.
How do you approach client education and awareness regarding estate planning, trusts and wealth management?
Client education is important to us because many people still do not fully understand the value of estate planning and fiduciary structures. A lot of people assume trusts and estate planning are only relevant for a select few, but the reality is that these structures are important tools for continuity, protection and family stability. We regularly engage clients through advisory sessions, thought leadership initiatives, seminars, webinars, articles, newsletters and tailored consultations aimed at increasing awareness and promoting informed financial decisions. Our goal is to simplify complex concepts and help clients understand how trusts and estate planning solutions can protect their assets, preserve family harmony and secure long-term financial stability. Ultimately, informed clients are better positioned to make decisions that create lasting impact and enduring legacies.
