Africa’s rich culinary traditions and cultural heritage will take centre stage in London on 19 July as the third edition of the Festival of African Cuisine brings together more than 50 food vendors, fashion exhibitors and cultural ambassadors at the historic Lindley Hall in Westminster.
Held inside the Royal Horticultural Society’s flagship venue, the festival aims to celebrate the diversity of African cuisine while highlighting the continent’s growing influence on the global food, fashion and cultural landscape.
Built in 1904 and commissioned during the reign of King Edward VII, Lindley Hall is renowned for its distinctive glass-vaulted ceiling and elegant Victorian architecture. The organisers say the venue provides a fitting setting for an event designed to showcase the richness, sophistication and diversity of African culture.

The festival reflects a growing movement among African entrepreneurs and creatives in the United Kingdom who are redefining how African cuisine is presented to international audiences. Beyond traditional dining, the event seeks to position African food as a refined culinary experience that reflects centuries of history, innovation and cultural exchange.

Visitors will have the opportunity to explore dishes from across the continent, highlighting the remarkable diversity of Africa’s regional cuisines. From North African vegetarian delicacies to West African favourites such as Aadun, Akara and Moin Moin, as well as African snails, game dishes and Southern African wines, the festival promises a broad culinary journey through the continent’s gastronomic traditions.

African cuisine is characterised by its extensive use of fresh ingredients, aromatic herbs, spices, grains and slow-cooked recipes. Across the continent, staples including cassava, yam, sorghum and fonio are combined with vegetables, legumes, peanuts and carefully balanced seasonings to produce dishes that have sustained communities for generations while increasingly attracting international recognition.

Alongside the culinary experiences, the festival will also feature African fashion designers showcasing contemporary and traditional creations inspired by the continent’s diverse cultures and artistic heritage.
Organisers say the event is intended not only to celebrate African food but also to promote a broader appreciation of the continent’s creativity, entrepreneurship and cultural identity.

Guests attending the festival’s VIP lounge will enjoy a premium hospitality experience featuring selected wines and champagne while networking with prominent Black British and African professionals, business leaders and cultural figures.
The organisers describe the event as a celebration of Africa’s enduring contribution to global civilisation, noting that the continent’s rich culinary traditions deserve greater international recognition alongside its historical achievements, artistic excellence and cultural diversity.
The Festival of African Cuisine will take place at Lindley Hall, Westminster, London, on Saturday, 19 July, from 2:00 p.m., welcoming food enthusiasts, families, cultural organisations and members of the wider public to experience the flavours, traditions and hospitality of Africa under one roof.
