Nigerian filmmaker Eboselume Okedeji has introduced SAY IT HERE, a youth podcast exploring faith, relationships and growing up in Africa.

Her film credits include Producing Assistant on BABY FARM, Associate Producer on A NIGHT IN 2005, as well as work across several short films and television commercials.

“Everything I’ve done so far has led up to moments like this. I started dreaming about creating shows like this as a teenager because I felt that the experiences of young people were underrepresented in African stories. It just happened that I found  Christ while studying Media and Film in Florida, and from then on, I wanted to create a bridge between God and young people through entertainment.

“This show reflects a lot of my own childhood. I had many experiences I couldn’t share with my parents or other adults, and because of that, some mistakes were made. That is the reality for many young people. More often than not, they turn to their peers, who are also trying to figure things out themselves, and sometimes end up receiving the wrong advice.

“I thought, why not bring together young people who have a strong foundation in Christianity, but are also fun, relatable and able to have honest conversations with their peers about these issues? That idea became “SAY IT HERE.”

POWERED BY CCHUB IN PARTNERSHIP WITH AFRICA NO FILTER

SAY IT HERE is powered by CCHUB in partnership with Africa No Filter and supported by THE GATES FOUNDATION as part of the Faith Storyteller Grant, which supports Christian and muslim storytellers using their platforms to contribute to more nuanced and progressive narratives about Africa.

The initiative recognises the significant role that faith and religious communities play in shaping how people across Africa understand themselves, their communities and the world around them. Through supporting faith storytellers, the programme seeks to encourage stories and messaging that engage with issues including gender equity and the diverse realities of life across the African continent.

ABOUT AFRICA NO FILTER

Africa No Filter is an advocacy organisation that is shifting stereotypical narratives about Africa by supporting storytelling that reflects a dynamic continent of progress, innovation and opportunity. They exist because many stories about Africa still lazily revolve around the single story of poor leadership, poverty, corruption, disease, and conflict, failing to portray the other, more progressive side of Africa and collectively perpetuating the narrative that Africa is broken, dependent and lacks agency. Through Community Building and Advocacy, they support storytellers to help shift these stereotypes because they impact the way the world sees Africa and how Africa sees itself. They are a donor collaborative. For more info, go to www.africanofilter.org and @africanofilter across social media.
