To give players and officials of the Super Eagles the support they need to beat Rwanda in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier, the Unified Supporters Club has earmarked a total of 150 members for the trip.
This was disclosed by interim chairman of the body, Vincent Okumagba, who said that the number of fans underscored the importance that the club attaches to the game.
He said: “For the Super Eagles to secure the ticket to the World Cup from that group, they are condemned to win all their matches henceforth as they haven’t done particularly well in their previous games. We must qualify for the Mundial after missing the last edition in Qatar.
“Before signing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that brought the splinter groups under one umbrella, both the NFF and NSC said that they had not been supporting us because of the different factions of the supporters club.
“Both the NSC and NFF promised that once we are united, they would ensure that we have a dedicated flight arrangement for supporters to Rwanda to ensure that we have a massive presence as we push the Super Eagles to victory at the crucial away match. To this end, we are planning for not less than 150 members to be on this trip,” he stated.
Okumagba hinted that though details of their trip to Rwanda were still sketchy, the club would meet with the NFF next week to fine-tune the travel arrangement.
“We are equally talking to some corporate bodies to see how they can come in and partner with the NFF and NSC-backed interim management board of the club as this is vital as well.
“We do not intend to charge members for this trip because this is not a leisure trip, but one which is needed at this time if Nigeria were to hoist her flag at the World Cup in 2026. A meeting of all stakeholders/members of the supporters group would be called before the travel date.
“The Exco has been meeting, and we will do all possible to travel and support the Eagles in the same apparel. The era of different uniforms and songs are all gone,” Okumagba stated.
