2026 National Sports Festival: Contractor assures of speedy completion of Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu

NSC Director General, Bukola Olopade

Ongoing work at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu, would be completed before the commencement of the National Sports Festival, in November this year, the contractor handling the project has assured.

Site Manager of the SANA Group Limited, Yaser Alshamah, said in Enugu, yesterday, that the company is committed to delivering the project on schedule.

He said: “We have three months to complete the roofing of the stadium. We have no choice. Our scope is to roof some sections of the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium. We have a work programme and schedule.  By the grace of God, Insha Allah, and with the support of everyone, we will complete the aluminum sheet roofing on time.”

On the stadium’s design, Alshamah explained the need for the circular structure. “It is necessary for the stadium to be round. If it is not round, something is wrong. The front has to be round,” he stated.

Also speaking on the project, the Site Agent, Emezie Ikeanyionwu, explained that the company was currently laying the foundation columns that would support the canopy for the umbrella roofing of the stadium.

“We are working according to the timeframe and schedule. These are the reinforced foundation layouts that will carry the canopy of the stadium,” he said.

The National Sports Festival tagged “2026 Coal City Games,” will feature athletes from across the country in Enugu State.
