Sarah Adegoke was off to a fine start yesterday at the on-going CBN Senior Open Tennis Championship when she defeated Blessing Anuna 6-1, 6-0 in one of the first round matches of the women’s singles events of the event at the tennis courts of the package ‘B’ of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium. The win took her to the second round of the competition.

Also in the second round is Muhammed Musa, who stopped Badmus Kareem 6-3, 6-3 in the men’s singles, while Godgift Temibra eased past Emmanuel Michael 6-4, 6-3.

Due to the late commencement of yesterday’s games, other men’s and women’s singles matches were played late into the night.

Meanwhile, the secretary general of the Nigerian Tennis Federation (NTF), Dayo Abulude, has commended CBN management for sponsoring the annual championship, which provides the platform for Nigerian youths to excel in sports, especially tennis. He called on other corporate organisations to emulate the apex bank by sponsoring sports.

Abunude also advised Nigerian youths to take advantage of the opportunity provided by CBN by participating actively in sports.
