Adekuoroye, Oborududu, others win gold medals

World silver medalist, Odunayo Adekuoroye, Commonwealth Games gold medalist, Blessing Oborududu, Mercy Genesis, Sunmisola Balogun and Blessing Onyebuchi yesterday won five gold medals in the women’s category for Team Nigeria at the ongoing 2019 African Senior Wrestling Championships in Hammamet, Tunisia.
Adekuoroye fighting in the 57kg defeated Cameroun’s Essone Tiako by a pin fall to win Nigeria’s second gold medal. Earlier, Genesis had recorded the country’s first gold medal in the first women’s finals in the 50kg.
Nigeria’s sensation, Sunmisola Balogun won the third gold medal after beating Yvette ZIE of Burkina Faso 1-0 in the 65kg weight class, while Oborududu made it fourth gold medal in the 68kg of the women’s freestyle after dismissing Senegalese, Anta Sambo 10-0, as Onyebuchi contesting in the 76kg made a mincemeat of Tunisia’s Ayari Rehim who she defeated by 10-0 result to increase the country’s gold medals tally to five.
The championships, which commenced on March 26, ends today, with winners emerging in the men’s category.
