Nigeria’s Ambassador to Cameroun, Abayomi Olonisakin, yesterday, reiterated his support for the Super Eagles in their bid to win the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations.

Ambassador Olonisakin spoke with The Guardian shortly after he was made the patron of Nigeria Football Supporters Club at Hotel Le Beneou in Garoua.

He praised the Super Eagles for making the country proud, adding he was also proud of the contributions of the Supporters Club to the success of the national team.

“Since I grew up to like football, the Nigeria Football Supporters Club has been there for as long as football has existed in our country.

“I thank God for this day and the executive of the NFSC for counting me worthy to be their patron. What this means is that, from whom much is given, much is expected. I will get to support them more and get more involved in their activities,” he said.

Speaking before decorating the ambassador as the NFSC patron, president general of Nigeria Football Supporters Club, Worldwide, Dr Rafiu Ladipo, said: “As is our tradition, whenever we are in a foreign country, we always make a courtesy call on our ambassador because he represents the president of our country. Our decision to make you our patron is in recognition of your contributions to the growth of football in our country, not just because you are the country’s ambassador.”

The colourful ceremony was attended by NFSC’s national chairman, Rev. Samuel Ikpea, and other members of his executive.
