AUX Exclusive holds Hot Eagles as Mike Okonkwo Football Championship begins
The 18th Mike Okonkwo Football Championship kicked off last weekend, with AUX Exclusive playing a 1-1 draw with Hot Eagles in the opening game of the competition.
The opening day of the event held at Digital Bridge Institute football field, Oshodi, saw 40 teams involved in the match parade to usher in the official kick-off of the tournament.
Former Nigeria international, Ifeanyi Udeze, who was the official guest of honour, charged the players to give their best and avoid causing bodily harm to their opponents.
He advised the players to use every game to showcase their skills, saying that they could be spotted by scouts, who have been coming to the venue to look for talents.
The former Super Eagles defender, who revealed that he was discovered by former U-17 national team coach, Fanny Amun, in a grassroots tournament in Ajegunle, Lagos, told the players to see the competition as a window for a better future.
The ex-Paoki FC of Greece star commended TREM Church for organising the championship and called on other Nigerians to key into grassroots football development.
At the opening ceremony, the chairman of, Local Organising Committee (LOC), Malachy Ndubuzor, assured the players of fair officiating.
