No fewer than 200 players will do battle from today as the Azimuth shipping lines junior tennis tournament kicks off fully. Organisers have said that the fourth edition of the annual competition in Lagos will present the best of the beat future stars.

Tournament director, Richard Inyang, told The Guardian that the players were drawn from about 20 states across the federation and will be catered for accordingly, both accommodation and feeding.

All players arrived yesterday with screening of said players taking place today and the competition will kick off afterwards.

Players will be competing at the week-long tournament in 12, 14, 16 and unders categories at the tournament which will be holding at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Onikan, Lagos.

Winners and runners-up of the competition will get education grants of N100k and N50k respectively in addition to their trophies, while quarterfinalists and semifinalists will be rewarded with various prizes.

This education grant is about 50 percent more than what was given to the winners and runners-up at the 2020 edition of the competition which was held at the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.

Inyang added that players, coaches and spectators are all expected to comply with every Covid-19 protocol at the venue of the competition. The tournament will end on Saturday, 15 January and winners would be awarded at the end.
