Bayelsa United upset Nasarawa United as Yenagoa clubs rule Aiteo Cup
Two Bayelsa clubs, Bayelsa United, and Bayelsa Queens, yesterday in Benin won the 2021 Aiteo Cup for men and women respectively.
Playing at the new Sam Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin, Bayelsa United defeated Nasarawa United 4-3 on penalties after the regular period and added time had ended 2-2.
The Yenagoa-based second division side won the N25 million Aiteo Cup star prize and the ticket to represent Nigeria in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup.
In the women’s version of the competition, Bayelsa Queens beat FC Robo Queens of Lagos 4-2 to win the Aiteo Cup N10 million prize money.
For coming second in the men’s competition, Nasarawa United got N10 million, while FC Robo Queens took home N5 million as the second-best side in the women’s version of the Aiteo Cup.
