Bestman Games launches ‘The City of Lagos: Electronic Banking Edition’ of Monopoly

On the morning of Tuesday 27th of February, an amazing new edition of Hasbro’s iconic Monopoly Board game was showcased to the world.

On the morning of Tuesday 27th of February, an amazing new edition of Hasbro’s iconic Monopoly Board game was showcased to the world. It was a day of class, fanfare and wonder, amidst the serious business and industry of family entertainment and gaming.

The day began with an opening prayer by Mrs. Gloria Ita-Ikpeme, and was followed by a welcome address by Chairman of Bestman Games, Mr. Odein Ajumogobia SAN. He reminded guests of times not so long ago when a visit to your bank for a small cash withdrawal became a whole day affair, after picking up your tally number!
The Lagos Monopoly Electronic Banking game is the modern spin on the classic Monopoly game; this edition reflects changes in how the real world uses money: transactions are conducted with Monopoly’s new banking card system instead of cash. As we inch closer towards a cashless economy. This educational board game shares the same philosophy: buy, trade, and win the electronic way. It exudes the same high-quality aesthetics and fun gameplay that will ensure that it is well received by generations of families.

Nimi Akinkugbe, Founder and CEO of Bestman Games, and one of Nigeria’s best-known entrepreneurs, then gave a passionate address recounting Bestman Games creative and entrepreneurial journey, and the bold steps the company is undertaking to establish Financial Literacy Clubs in Schools providing children and students with a life skills that will steer them to financial security.

Mr. Bismark Rewane, CEO Financial Derivatives Ltd, gave an excellent presentation on “Cashless Lagos: Making the Blind Spots Visible. Taking the audience on a journey from barter exchanges, through coins, bank notes, cheques, debit and cards, telephone and online banking, and crypto-currencies. All over the world, the trend has been for governments and financial institutions to pursue policies to reduce the volume of cash in the system. In some developed countries one can do almost entirely without the use of hard cash and electronic means of payments far outstrip cash transactions in much of the industrialized world today.

Monopoly is a property trading game so it was no surprise that real estate expert, Mrs. Udo Okonjo, CEO/Vice-Chairman of Fine and Country, West Africa shared thoughts on “The Magic of Lagos: Building the Future,” with visuals of the transformation of the Lagos Sky line and charged guests to be part of this transformation by investing in real estate.

The event, expertly anchored by Yinka Akinkugbe, drew to a close with remarks from Ayo Ogunranti of Zenith Bank lead sponsor of this special edition, and a vote of thanks by Mrs. IbiaiAni, Managing Consultant, The Daisy Management Centre and Director, Bestman Games Ltd.
