Boniface, Kane nominated for Bundesliga team of the season

Bayer Leverkusen’s Nigerian striker, Victor Boniface, has been nominated for the 2023/24 Bundesliga Team of the Season.

Bundesliga announced the nominees on their X handles on Thursday, 18 April l, 2024.

Boniface is one of eight Leverkusen players, which includes former Arsenal midfielder, Granit Xhaka, that were shortlised.

He, alongside Harry Kane of Bayern Munich are in the running with others eight others in the forward category.

There are five nominees in the goalkeeper category, 10 shortlised for the defence and 15 will slug it out in the midfield.

The final Bundesliga Team of the Season will be decided via votes by fans.

After a three months absence due to injury, Boniface returned to help Leverkusen Clinch the Bundesliga title for the first time in their history.

Nigerian striker Boniface scored and also provided an assist in the 5-0 win against Werder Bremen, which confirmed them as champions.

The 23-year-old has scored 18 goals, nine assists in 27 games in all competitions in his debut season for Leverkusen.

He won the Bundesliga Rookie of the Month award four straight times.

Meanwhile, Leverkusen can end the season as Treble winners, as they are in the final of the German Cup and are on the verge of qualifying for the Europa League semi-finals.

In the first leg against West Ham, the newly Crowne German champions defeated West Ham 2-0, with Boniface getting one of the goals.
