Daily Trust tourney moved to December 4
Golf players and other lovers of the game will now wait till December 4 to participate in the Daily Trust Golf Tournament. The competition, which is expected to draw the crème of Nigeria’s golf players to the Ibom Icon Golf Resort, was originally billed to hold November 20, 2021.
According to General Manager, Business and Strategy, Daily Trust, Ahmed Shekarau, certain unforeseen events necessitated the postponement of the competition.
He added: “There was minor adjustment to enable us achieve the desired result. The new date is now December 4; we regret the inconveniences the change might have caused our prospective participants and teeming followers of the tournament.
“When we gave November 20 date initially, many would have read it in the media,” he said, affirming that no less than 120 golfers are expected to participate in the tournament.
The Daily Trust tourney is a one-day amateur event, which debuted in 2018 in Abuja.
The organisers said only golfers with handicap are qualified to participate, adding that the winner will take home a trophy and an all-expense paid trip for a weekend game in Kigali, Rwanda.
Shekarau advised to take advantage of the tournament to improve their status in the game.
He said: “People travelled from different places to participate in the previous editions; the winners went home with fantastic prizes that impacted on their lives.
“This edition will not be different, but we have a trophy and a paid trip to Kigali in Rwanda for the winner. This is part of Daily Trust’s contribution to help develop the game in Nigeria,” Shekarau said.
Also speaking on the event, Mr. Jolomi Ideh, a former Captain of Ikeja Golf Club, Lagos and a member of the organising committee, said, “The first six winners will be given prizes, which include complete sets of golf bags.
“However, the first three will get trophies in addition to the sets of golf bag.”
