D’Tigress beat DR Congo 69-35 in opening game, meet Egypt tomorrow
Reigning champions of the ongoing Women’s Afrobasket Championship, Nigeria’s D’Tigress, yesterday, in Kigali, Rwanda, started their title defence on a good note, beating Democratic Republic of Congo 69-35 in the opening group game.
D’Tigress put up a 16-8 point lead at the end of the first quarter. DR Congo fought back in the second quarter, but the Nigerians widened the gap by a 13-10 margin, thereby establishing an 11-point lead at the halftime break.
With a 14-point lead in the final quarter, D’Tigress did not relent as they recorded a massive 69-35 victory.
The team will play their next game against Egypt tomorrow. Speaking with The Guardian, yesterday, NBBF Media Committee member, Maxwell Kumoye, said that the victory has given the girls the confidence to excel at the championship.
