Eagles must maintain high level of fitness, discipline, says Aina
Aina won the hearts of many Egyptians with his sterling display from the left back position for the Eagles against the Swallows of Burundi in the first Group B fixture of the AFCON. His sumptuous assist to Odion Ighalo gave Nigeria the 1-0 victory over the Burundi.
Speaking to The Guardian, Aina said the Nigerian team still has to work together in unison, in the same spirit until the goal of winning the AFCON is achieved.
“We did well in our first match against Burundi, which we managed to win. We need to continue to do the same in our next match. Without a doubt we have a good squad.
“The Nations Cup is a good competition for the team and everyone is happy. We just have to keep on doing what we have been doing. Practicing well during training in one team spirit, and also working hard for one another. And in our first match that was exactly what we did and that is thing to do,” he said.
The former Chelsea of England star, who just moved permanently to Serie A side, Torino, however, said his performance against the Burundians would not be enough justification for his inclusion in the next game Guinea. He said every player in the squad has to fight for a shirt to be sure of a first place in the starting 11.
“Everyone in the team has to keep his level high during training. Nothing is given without merit; everybody has to work for his place in the team throughout the whole tournament.
“Winning the first game is always good for every country at the start of a competition and we are very much pleased with our performance. We hope to progress to the next stage of the competition,” he said.
