Elmarino Sports Club (SC) of Magodo, Lagos, yesterday, defeated Matured Minds Football Club of Lagos by two unreplied goals in a friendly encounter played at the CMD football pitch in Magodo.

The match, which kicked off at 9.00 a.m., with supporters cheering vociferously, saw both teams missing a lot of scoring chances in an entertaining first half.

Godstime Udochukwu missed the best chance to put his side, Elmarino SC, in the lead in the first half when he was put through with the goaltender at his mercy. But his effort went wide.

Hostilities resumed in the second stanza with Elmarino playing with more purposefulness, leading to a flurry of attacks on the defense of Matured Mind FC.

Udochukwu would later make up for his miss in the first half when he slotted home from the spot, sending the home fans into frenzy.

With celebrations from the first goal yet to abate, Abdulgafar Ayobami put the game beyond the visitors when he scored his side’s second goal after a solo run.

Speaking with newsmen after the match, Team Manager, Elmarino SC, Babatunde Adebayo, acknowledged that Matured Minds FC was a great side and contained his team well in the first half. He disclosed that the tactical changes made during the interval, however, made all the difference and gave his team the edge.

Club President, MMFC, Ernest Porbeni praised his side for playing to instructions and giving a good account of themselves. He said his team lost in the second half because Elmarino took their chances.

Adebayo had earlier told journalists that the friendly was one of the series of sporting activities organised by the club to encourage fitness and promote healthy lifestyles among members.
