Edo shuts public, private schools ahead of National Sports Festival

With less than six days to the beginning of the 20th edition of the National Sports Festival (NSF) in Benin City, the Edo State Government has ordered the closure of all public and private schools across the state to allow residents to participate in the sports fiesta.

In a statement by Commissioner for Education, Jimoh ljegbai, the government has amended the state’s school calendar to give room for the new development.

According to him, “All public and private schools in Edo State are directed to proceed on break from Monday, March 23, 2020 and should resume April 2, 2020 due to the National Sports Festival (NSF) being hosted by Edo State Government from March 22, 2020 to April 1, 2020.

“The second term vacation will now commence Thursday April 9, 2020. All schools will now resume for the third term on Monday April 27, 2020 originally scheduled. Teachers, parents and pupils/student are enjoined to attend all events of the NSF. This amended calendar is for both public and private schools in the state. (Primary and post primary schools).”
