Eguavoen, Obiekwu hail South-South tourney

Super Eagles’ former stars, Austin Eguavoen and Kingsley Obiekwu, have hailed the ongoing South-South Champion of Champions football tournament in Benin City, Edo State, saying it will help prepare teams from the region for the 2016 Federation Cup.
The competition, which is organised by the Edo FA and sponsored by FROT Group, ends on Saturday.
Eight teams namely Edo FA Cup kings, Inneh Stars, Dynamite FC, Insurance (Edo); J. Atete, Delta Force (Delta); Yenagoa Academy (Bayelsa), Akwa Starlets and Go Round FC (Rivers) are vying for honours in the inaugural competition, which has the winners going home with N1m, while runners-up will receive N500,000.
The competition is being played on a round-robin basis with two groups of four teams each. The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals.
Tunisia ’94 AFCON winner, Eguavoen, now coach of Akwa Starlets, said, “I’m excited by the concept behind the competition.
