Falcon takes golf development initiative to Lagos, Abeokuta

Falcon Golf Development Company’s desire to grow the game of golf at the grassroots level seems to be gaining traction with the coming Falcon Golf Children’s Golf Clinics scheduled to hold in Lagos and Ogun states.

Falcon Golf Development Company’s desire to grow the game of golf at the grassroots level seems to be gaining traction with the coming Falcon Golf Children’s Golf Clinics scheduled to hold in Lagos and Ogun states.

The golf promoting, organising and sponsoring outfit has fixed the Abeokuta Golf Clinic for September 20-23 at the MKO Abiola Stadium, while Lagos event will hold at Teslim Balogun Stadium and Campos Mini Stadium on Lagos Island.

Whilst the Abeokuta Clinic is to be organised in conjunction with Ogun State Sports Council, the Lagos Clinic will be in conjunction with Lagos State Golf Association.

The Ogun Sports Council and Lagos State Golf Association would be responsible for choosing the schools to be invited for these events.

The First leg of the Lagos Clinic will hold on at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Suru-Lere on September 27 to 29, while the second leg fixed for Campos Mini Stadium will hold on October 11 to 13.

Already, Sports philanthropist, Dan Ngerem Sports Foundation, has thrown his weight behind the Lagos initiative.

Speaking ahead of the event, the Chief Executive Officer of FGDC, Remi Olukoya said: “the plan is to introduce golf to primary and secondary schools and Nigerians at a very young age. That is the only way you can produce future world champions in the sport”.

While saying the plan to set up a full-blown golf academy in the country is the ultimate goal of FGDC, Olukoya explain further that the proposed clinic to be staged across the country would prepare grounds for the academy.

To make this dream of catching the future golfers young a reality, Olukoya said he would need to support of individuals and corporate organisations. He would also like to appeal to Lagos State and FCT for land to site the first public championship golf resort and academy.
