Fans mob players during training in Uyo
Football fans from within and outside Uyo thronged the Godswill Akpabio Stadium yesterday to have a glimpse of their heroes who are preparing for a Cameroun 2019 African Nations Cup qualifier against South Africa at the venue.
Checks by The Guardian revealed that the fans started arriving at the stadium as early as 9.00 a.m following the announcement that the Super Eagles would begin training at the venue yesterday. The Super Eagles are lodged at the Le Meridien Ibom Hotel and Golf Resort, Uyo.
Aside the regular faces like Kelechi Iheanacho and Alex Iwobi, the reports indicate that the fans were particularly thrilled by the presence of ADO Den Haag Dutch-Nigerian defender, Tyronne Ebuehi, who is making his first appearance in Uyo.
About 13 players were expected to train yesterday evening for the match that will hold on Saturday.
Among those that arrived in the camp late yesterday evening were FC Porto’s defensive midfielder, Mikel Agu, Alex Iwobi, Kelechi Iheanacho, Moses Simon, Wilfred Ndidi, Ikechukwu Ezenwa and Alhassan Ibrahim.
Feelers from the Super Eagles’ camp said proper training will start today with the first batch of players comprising captain Ogenyi Onazi, John Ogu, Henry Onyekuru, Victor Osimhen, Daniel Akpeyi, Olarewaju Kayode and Dele Alampasu joining the late arrivals for the exercise.
Coach Gernot Rohr and Captain Onazi are expected to address the press tomorrow ahead of the game.
