Finidi: Rivers United primed for victory over Black Bull

Rivers United Coach, Finidi George, believes his team have done all they should to win tomorrow’s CAF Champions League tie against Mozambique’s Black Bull in Maputo.

The Port Harcourt-based side got to the second round of the championship after a narrow defeat of Congo DR’s Aigles du Congo in the previous round of the competition.

Tomorrow’s game is expected to bring out the best in the Rivers boys, who surprising ly lost at home to Bayelsa United in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) last weekend.

Speaking on then game before his team’s departure for Maputo via Lagos Yesterday, Finidi said that Rivers United are focused on getting a good result in Maputo to put the boys at ease in the second leg next week.

“We have learnt from the mistakes of the recent games… we have corrected the lapses and hopefully we will get a good atmosphere in Maputo to play our game,” Finidi said, acknowledging, however, that tomorrow’s game requires total commitment from his squad as they continue their quest for a group stage spot.

Rivers United’s contingent for the game, made up of players and technical officials, began their journey on Tuesday from Port Harcourt to Lagos and flew out of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport to Maputo for the game.

The highly anticipated encounter is scheduled for the Campo da ABB Stadium in Maputo.

The return fixture will be staged next week at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo.

A place in the lucrative CAF Champions League group stage is at stake, with the winner over two legs set to join the continent’s elite clubs in the hunt for glory and significant prize rewards.

CAF has appointed Namibian referee Mr. Negongo Mweshitsama Naftal to take charge of the first leg, with fellow countrymen Alex Muzibwene Lumponjani and Hangula Velinoma Angula serving as Assistant Referees 1 and 2, respectively.

Fillipus Hanyemunange Nghilinganye has been named fourth official, while Suleiman Othman of Zanzibar will serve as match commissioner.
