While Nigerians are still waiting for the identity of the man that will take the Super Eagles through the Russia 2018 World Cup qualifiers, the country’s main threat to the next Coupe du Mundial, Algeria, have chosen former Ghana Coach, Milovan Rajevic as the manager of their campaign.

The Serbian, who was until Sunday touted as one of the possible managers of the Super Eagles, was in charge of Ghana when the Black Stars ran to the quarterfinals of the South Africa 2010 World Cup.

The Algerian Football Federation (FAF), who parted ways with Frenchman, Christian Gourcuff in April, named the coach as their handler in their official website on Sunday.

Rajevac will assume duties on July 1, but his first game for the Fennecs is their last Gabon 2017 African Nations Cup qualifier against Lesotho early September at the Mustapha Tchaker stadium of Blida.

Rajevic’s mandate is to qualify Algeria for Russia 2018, as well as lead them to at least the semifinal of the Gabon 2017 Nations Cup.

His contract covers the 2018 World Cup, with an option of extending it to the 2019 African Nations Cup scheduled for in Cameroun.

Rajevac has had a two-year experience in Africa between 2008 and 2010. He has been coach of the Ghanaian U-20s, and then took command of the Black Stars, where he first of all succeeded by qualifying for the World Cup. He took part in the 2010 AFCON finals in Angola with the Black Stars. In the World Cup of the same year, Rajevac made history by slightly missing a semi-finals qualification of a World Cup with Ghana.

According tom FAF, “Rajevic will retain the staff used by Gourcuff. Nabil Neghiz will remain as the deputy coach, Yazid Mansouri stays as overall manager of the team, while Guillaume Marie will continue with physical preparation. Finally, concerning goal keepers, the Belhadji-Bolly duo will be maintained also.”
