Emerson Palmieri joins Marseille after three seasons at West Ham

West Ham United have confirmed that Italian left-back Emerson Palmieri has completed a permanent transfer to Olympique de Marseille, ending a three-year spell at the London Stadium.

The 29-year-old defender joined West Ham from Chelsea in 2022 for £15 million and made 113 appearances across all competitions. Emerson played a key role in West Ham’s historic UEFA Europa Conference League campaign, including starting in the final against Fiorentina in Prague in June 2023.

In a statement, the club expressed gratitude for his service, noting: “Everyone at the club would like to thank Emerson for his contribution, hard work and commitment and wish him every success for the future.”

Emerson’s departure follows the arrival of Senegalese left-back El Hadji Malick Diouf from Slavia Prague, whose signing has reshaped West Ham’s defensive options. The Italian had fallen out of the starting lineup at the start of the season, prompting the move to France.

Fabrizio Romano confirmed that a fee of £865,600 has been agreed for the transfer, with Emerson scheduled to undergo a medical before the deal’s finalisation.

Marseille are also pursuing the signing of West Ham centre-back Nayef Aguerd, with medicals planned to conclude the transfers before the close of the transfer window.
