Enyimba’s Head Coach, Stanley Eguma, has assured fans of the Peoples Elephant that their team will return to the continent despite their current poor position on the Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) table.
Enyimba, who have an outstanding game, are currently in the eighth position with 31 points on the log led by Remo Stars (45 points).
Shooting Stars of Ibadan are second with 37 points, while third, fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh-placed Rivers United, Enugu Rangers, Abia Warriors, El Kanemi, and Ikorodu City have 35, 34, 33, 32, and 31 points respectively.
Enyimba began their climb up the league ladder with an impressive 1-0 defeat of Lobi Stars in Bauchi, a result which Eguma said was a sign of what the former African champions were up to.
The win ended Enyimba’s winless streak stretching to the CAF Confederation Cup, where they lost 3-1 to Zamalek of Egypt in Cairo, and drew 1-1 with Al Masry, also of Egypt, in their penultimate game.
Speaking on the expected Enyimba resurgence in the second stanza of the league, Eguma, who took over from Yemi Olanrewaju about five weeks ago, said that the players were gradually adapting to his programme.
“We are gradually getting our rhythm back and I believe with time, we will get the performance that our hard work deserves.
“We aim to return to the continent, which is where Enyimba belongs,” he said.
Enyimba will return to Uyo, where they played their continental games to meet Akwa United in the Round of 23 game this weekend.
