Lyon, the runaway leaders in the French women’s Premiere Ligue, announced Thursday that this weekend’s meeting with third-placed Paris FC will be a “Match of Woofs”.
The club are opening one stand at their Groupama Stadium to fans accompanied by dogs for the match on Saturday evening.
Each dog is entitled to three free tickets: one for itself, one for its owner and one for a friend or family member, said the club in a press release, adding that it had already received bookings for around 100 canine fans.
Owners will have to sign a liability waiver, keep their dogs on a lead and clear up any mess.
The dogs must be at least six months old, their vaccinations must be up-to-date and they cannot be in heat.
Dogs, such as pit bulls, that fall in the official French categories of dangerous breeds, will not be allowed in.
Lyon are already sure of a playoff spot as they chase a fourth straight French title.
The press office said it expects the canine crowd to be boosted by around 3,500 two-legged supporters in a venue that can hold almost 60,000.
