Nigeria Premier Football League side Inter Lagos have been fined and deducted three points and three goals by the league body.
The sanction comes after the Lagos-based team failed to provide adequate security, which led to attacks on match officials by authorised persons in a matchday 7 fixture against Katsina United on Sunday, October 4, 2026, at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena.
According to a statement published on the official X handle of the league body on Monday, Inter Lagos’ team manager and some of the supporters of the club physically assaulted the first assistant referee, which led to an injury to his face and damage to personal items, including his mobile phone.
The league body also accused Inter Lagos of not ensuring proper conduct of their officials, as they held match officials hostage an hour after the match.
Consequently, the club will pay a fine in the tune of N2 million for not providing adequate security in the stadium and an additional N1 million for holding the match officials hostage.
Inter Lagos will pay N2 million for the assault on match officials and N 250,000 as compensation for the damage to personal items and treatment of injuries sustained.
Inter Lagos will also be deducted three points and three goals from the points accrued so far this season.
Upon effect, Inter Lagos will be left with two points and a -9 goal difference, adding to their difficult debut season in the NPFL.
Inter Lagos, according to the statement, has 48 hours to appeal the sanctions from the day of notice.
