Oborevwori invites Drew Uyi to position Warri Stadium globally

FIFA-licensed international football agent, Dr. Drew Uyi

Chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission, Hon. Onos Oborevwori, has invited FIFA licensed agent and sports brand strategist, Drew Uyi, to conduct a high-level inspection of the New Warri Stadium ahead of its official opening.

The move is part of a strategic effort to position Delta State as a key player on the global football stage.

The inspection visit, scheduled to last two days, will assess the stadium’s readiness in line with international standards and explore strategies to brand and market the facility for global visibility and commercial viability.
According to officials of the Sports Commission, the initiative forms part of a broader plan to transform the New Warri Stadium into a premier sports destination in West Africa, capable of hosting international matches, tournaments, and attracting major partnerships.

The inspection will cover critical areas including infrastructure compliance, pitch quality, media and broadcast readiness, safety systems, and VIP hospitality facilities.

A statement by the Commission noted that the exercise would also evaluate commercial opportunities such as sponsorship integration, naming rights, and enhanced fan experience.

Beyond the stadium, Uyi is expected to explore strategies for repositioning Warri Wolves F.C. to achieve greater global visibility.

“The visit will also focus on revitalising and rebranding Warri Wolves as a modern, competitive football club aligned with global standards, while strengthening its fan base and creating pathways for youth development and international exposure,” the statement said.

Sports observers believe Uyi’s involvement, given his international network and experience, could significantly boost the project’s credibility and open doors to global football ecosystems.

Speaking on arrival in Nigeria from his base in London, Uyi said he would deliver a comprehensive strategic report at the end of the visit.

“The report will highlight compliance gaps, commercial opportunities, and provide a three-year roadmap for international positioning. It will also include recommendations for attracting major sporting events and establishing sustainable revenue streams,” he said.

Stakeholders say the initiative could boost investor confidence, promote sports tourism, and stimulate economic growth, while strengthening Delta State’s reputation as a hub for football development.

With the New Warri Stadium nearing completion, the move signals the state government’s ambition not only to build a world-class facility but also to ensure it competes effectively on the global stage.
