Nigerian goalkeeper Ojo Olorunleke has extended his stay with Ethiopian outfit Welwalo Adigrat University FC after agreeing to a short-term contract renewal.

The 29-year-old Nigerian international, who initially joined the club on a short-term deal earlier in 2025, has now committed to an additional six months following the expiration of his first contract.

The renewal agreement, signed in November 2025, will keep the Nigerian international at the club until May 1, 2026.

Olorunleke made the move to the Ethiopian side after parting ways with Sudanese giants Al-Merrikh, seeking regular playing time and a fresh challenge in East Africa.

Since his arrival, the former Enyimba captain has brought experience and leadership to the squad, adding depth to a side competing within the Ethiopian football structure. Welwalo Adigrat University FC, based in Adigrat, have been active within the country’s top-flight system in recent seasons.

The contract extension is understood to be part of a mutual agreement between both player and club, allowing continuity as the team navigates a demanding campaign.

Olorunleke, who was part of Nigeria’s squad to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, continues to maintain his presence on the international scene while building his club career abroad.

With his future now secured until May 2026, attention will turn to his performances in the coming months as he aims to reinforce his standing both at club level and within the national team set-up.
