Victor Osimhen

Nigerian stars were in action across Europe over the weekend, producing a mix of goals, assists and notable performances for their clubs as the 2025/26 season gathers momentum. Victor Osimhen and Paul Onuachu grabbed the headlines with important goals for their Turkish sides, while several other Super Eagles players featured prominently across England, Spain, Belgium and France.

ENGLAND

Alex Iwobi, Calvin Bassey & Samuel Chukwueze (Fulham)
Alex Iwobi marked his 315th Premier League appearance as Fulham played out a goalless draw with Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.

The Nigerian midfielder completed the full 90 minutes in a tightly contested encounter but could not inspire Marco Silva’s side to a breakthrough.

Calvin Bassey made his 20th league start of the campaign and produced a solid defensive performance, while Samuel Chukwueze made his 15th league appearance, coming on in the 68th minute as Fulham pushed unsuccessfully for a winner.

Ola Aina & Taiwo Awoniyi (Nottingham Forest)
Ola Aina came closest to breaking the deadlock after striking the crossbar in the 58th minute.

The Nigerian defender brilliantly controlled a long ball from Nikola Milenkovic before unleashing a powerful strike from the edge of the box that beat the goalkeeper but rattled the woodwork.

Taiwo Awoniyi later came on for his 10th substitute appearance of the season and almost snatched a late winner in the 88th minute after finding space behind the Fulham defence. The striker has made just one league start so far this season.

Frank Onyeka (Coventry City)
Frank Onyeka featured for Coventry City in their 2–1 Championship defeat to Southampton, ending the club’s six-match winning streak.

The Nigerian midfielder, who joined the club during the January transfer window, admitted the defeat was disappointing but urged his teammates to quickly shift focus to their next fixture against Swansea City as they continue their push for Premier League promotion.

Ryan Alebiosu (Blackburn Rovers)
Super Eagles defender Ryan Alebiosu registered his third assist of the season as Blackburn Rovers defeated Millwall 2–1 in the Championship.

The right-back, who made his Nigeria debut at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, delivered an impressive display to help Blackburn secure an important victory.

Sadiq Umar (Valencia)
Sadiq Umar played 56 minutes in Valencia’s 1–0 defeat to Real Oviedo in La Liga.

Akor Adams & Chidera Ejuke (Sevilla)
Akor Adams featured for 47 minutes as Sevilla suffered a 5–2 defeat to Barcelona at Camp Nou.

The Nigerian forward appeared to pick up a knock before being substituted, while compatriot Chidera Ejuke came off the bench but is yet to start a league game for Sevilla in 2026.

ITALY

Maduka Okoye (Udinese)
Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye was unable to keep a clean sheet as Udinese suffered a narrow 1–0 home defeat to Juventus in their Serie A clash on Saturday.

Despite a determined display, Udinese failed to find a response after conceding the decisive goal, leaving Okoye and his teammates empty-handed at the final whistle.

Gift Orban (Hellas Verona)
Nigerian forward Gift Orban featured for 86 minutes before being replaced by Daniel Mosquera as Hellas Verona fell to a 2–0 home defeat against Genoa in Sunday’s Serie A encounter.

Orban worked tirelessly in attack but was unable to make a decisive impact as Verona struggled to break down the visitors’ defence.

Rafiu Durosinmi (Pisa)
It was a dramatic outing for Nigerian striker Rafiu Durosinmi, who was sent off for violent conduct in the 37th minute during Pisa’s Serie A clash with Cagliari.

Despite being reduced to 10 men, Pisa produced a spirited performance to secure a 3–1 victory, ending a frustrating 17-game winless run in the league.

BELGIUM

Raphael Onyedika (Club Brugge)
Raphael Onyedika continued his impressive run with Club Brugge, making his 34th appearance of the season in their 2–1 away victory over Westerlo.

It was the midfielder’s 13th consecutive start in the Belgian Pro League as Brugge kept the pressure on league leaders and defending champions Union Saint-Gilloise.

FRANCE

Moses Simon (Paris FC)
Moses Simon fired blank as Paris FC settled for a 0–0 draw against Strasbourg in Ligue 1.
