Super Falcons win Women’s National Team of The Year
Super Falcons of Nigeria, on Monday night, won the Africa Women National Team of the Year award at the ongoing Confederation of African Football Award in Marrakech, Morocco.
Bayana Bayana of South Africa and Lioness of Morocco came second and third respectively.
The Super Falcons showed class at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup where they played a goalless draw against Canada before beating host their pulsating 3-2 win over host Australia and another goalless draw against Ireland to book a passage to the knockout rounds.
They eventually bowed out in the second round after losing to England on penalties after both teams failed to break the deadlock in 120 minutes
Randy Waldrum’s team kept two clean sheets — the first time an African side has doubled their shutouts in one tournament in the competition’s history — and Asisat Oshoala’s goal against co-hosts Australia makes the Barcelona striker the only player from the continent to score at three different finals
