The Nigerian Schools Sports Federation (NSSF) in collaboration with the Wamufat Youth Community Development Foundation (WYCDF) has announced plans to host a seven-day Youth Sports Clinic at the Agroterra Sports Complex, Joga-Orile, near Abeokuta, Ogun State, from August 10 to 16, 2025.
The NSSF said that the clinic is part of a nationwide programme designed to equip young people through structured sports activities, mentorship, and personal development.
With a strong emphasis on grassroots impact, the programme will bring together coaches, gamemasters, facilitators, and volunteers to instill values such as discipline, teamwork, and wellness in participants, it said.
The WYCDF said that the clinic aligns with its broader mission to harness the power of sports as a catalyst for positive change, particularly in underserved communities. Throughout the week, participants will engage in daily athletics training, motivational sessions, wellness education, and values-based coaching. Activities will include sports drills, mentoring, wellness talks, and leadership development sessions.
“This is not just about games or physical fitness — it’s about building confidence, character, and community,” said a spokesperson for the foundation.
The initiative has already attracted attention from local leaders and members of the Nigerian diaspora, who view the clinic as a model for sustainable youth development in Nigeria and beyond.
NSSF President, Olabisi Joseph, commended the foundation for the initiative, stating: “I must commend WYCDF for this initiative, as it aligns with NSSF’s mission to promote sports development in Nigerian schools and our strategic agenda, IMPACTS. This agenda focuses on clinics and camps that teach the basics and foundational techniques of sports to our young learners, introducing them to various sports such as athletics, basketball, football, golf, table tennis, tennis, and ayo.”
She added, “This clinic will undoubtedly empower young people with essential life skills, discipline, and teamwork values. We’re excited to partner with WYCDF on this project, particularly as we’re using the South West region as a pilot for this first edition. With over 400 learners and 150 Games Masters, sports officials, and coaches participating, we’re confident that this initiative will have a significant impact. We look forward to seeing the positive outcomes and potentially expanding the programme to other regions in the future.”
