Fury breaks silence on retirement after Joshua fight

Anthony Joshua v Tyson Fury

Tyson Fury has provided an answer to questions surrounding his future ahead of his blockbuster showdown with Anthony Joshua later in the year.

The Principality Stadium in Cardiff will host the mega fight between the two former World heavyweight champions on December 11, with the ring walk set for 1 a.m.

Even though the bout is finally happening at a time when the two boxers have seen better days in their respective careers over the last decade, it remains arguably the biggest fight of the year.

Tyson Fury, ahead of the fight, has hinted to fans whether or not the fight against Anthony Joshua will finally be his last in his professional career.

Fans are curious to know because they are not unfamiliar with Fury’s retirement antics. Fury announced his retirement from the sport following his consecutive losses to three-time undisputed champion Oleksandr Uysk.

“I’m going to continue. I’ve got two fights left on my contract. I’ll finish the contract off and then probably sign another 10-fight deal. Who knows? If the money’s right, I’ll sign another 10 fights, but they’ve got to be quick because I’m getting older,” Fury told IFL TV.

Should Fury go on to sign another 10-fight contract, the Manchester-born boxer would retire from the sport at the age of 44, a provider he has fought twice a year since 2018, since his return from his break.

Outside of Anthony Joshua, there aren’t many options left for Fury except for Daniel Dubois, who is seen as a potential opponent after his impressive win over Fabio Wardley at the London O2 Arena on October 17.

Meanwhile, UFC and Zuffa Boxing boss Dana White said the gate scale for the Fury v Joshua fight is expected to be around $34 million.

“There were over 500,000 people in the (Ticketmaster) queue. Incredible.”

“But for our generation, two of the biggest, most famous heavyweights in boxing. And not even arguable, it’s the biggest UK fight ever between two British heavyweights.

“Definitely, it will be the most expensive gate in British boxing history. I don’t want to mis-speak here, but we have this thing scaled for around $34 million,”

If the figure turns out to be accurate, it will become the fourth-highest in boxing gate history, following Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao at $72.2 million, Mayweather Jr. vs. Conor McGregor at $55.4 million, and Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford pegged at $47.2 million.
