Organisers of the annual Ikoyi Club Chairman’s Cup Badminton Championship have explained that the competition helps them to rate the standard of their members and grade them accordingly.

The second edition of the Chairman’s Cup Badminton Championship ended at the weekend with some new stars discovered at the competition.

Speaking at the end of the championship, Chairman, Badminton Section of Ikoyi Club 1938, Kassim Abdul Rahman said the event, which is the section’s last event of the year, was exciting, adding that some top stars were upset by unrated players.

“The Chairman’s Cup is organised to enable the players at Ikoyi Club to compete among themselves to know their level of performance in Badminton.

“There is no winner or loser in the event. It is another avenue for members to see how far they have improved in the game in the last one year.

“As the Chairman’s Cup rounds off, the Ikoyi Club Badminton Section will not engage in any activity till next year.”

He disclosed that renovation of the facilities will start immediately to improve the court to international standard.

“By next year when we resume activities, our intention is to host international and domestic championships. The Nigerian badminton national team also uses Ikoyi Club facilities to train some times. This is one of the reasons Ikoyi Club Badminton court should be among the best in Nigeria,” he said
