King’s College, Lagos, CMS Grammar School, Bariga, Anwar-Ul-Islam Model College, Agege, and Whitesands School, Lekki, Queens College, Yaba all booked their places in the semi final stage of the Guaranty Trust Bank Plc (GTBank) Season Eight Masters Cup played at the Campos Mini Stadium in Lagos Island.

Kings College defeated hard-fighting Jibril Martins Memorial Grammar School, Iponri in a 1-3 down comeback to finally secure a 4-3 hard-earned victory over their opponent in an epic encounter of the male’s category, which turned out to be the match of the day.

In another game, the defending champions, Igbobi College, Yaba were overpowered 5-0 by Anwar-Ul-Islam Model College, Agege in a one-sided game, while White Sand School beat Baptist Academy, Obanikoro 2-0, as CMS Grammar School pinned the Federal Science Technology College, Yaba 1-0 to also secure a ticket in the semi finals berth of the competition.

However, in the female cadre, the defending champions, Queens College, Yaba again showed reasons why they are the school to beat, as they trounced Anwar Ul Islam Girls High School, Ojokoro 6-0 in a game that the most successful school in the championship dominated right from the start of the whistle and made it looked so easy to record a rousing victory.

The matchup between Corona Secondary School Agbara and Atlantic Hall Epe finished in a 3-4 loss to the girls from Agbara through penalties after the game had ended 0-0 at regulation time, while Greensprings School, Lekki edged out Lead-Forte Gate College, Lekki 2-0 also via penalty shootouts after a deadlock, as Ansar-Ud-Deen College, Isolo could not stop the firepower of Ansar-Ud-Deen Girls High school Itire, who they lost to in a 3-0 score line.

Alongside the GTBank Masters Cup, the bank organises and sponsors several other football programs, such as the GTBank Principals Cup tournaments in Lagos and Ogun states, the GTBank Super Cup and the players’ development programme.
