Team Lagos at the weekend picked five tickets for this year’s National Youth Games holding next month in Ilorin, Kwara State.

At the Southwest zonal elimination competition held in Abeokuta, Ogun State, the state acquired five team sports tickets that include handball (boys and girls), basketball (girls), football (boys) and beach volleyball (girls).

The state was also adjudged to have the best youthful teams in hockey (boys), handball (boys and girls) and football (boys).

Speaking on their feat, the Executive Chairman of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Dr. Kweku Adedayo Tandoh, commended the success of the contingent at the zonal qualifiers, adding that the accomplishment was due to the investment by the state in grassroots sports growth.

“I congratulate all Team Lagos athletes, coaches and officials at the just concluded zonal eliminations. For securing five team sports events means they have justified the wonderful support of His Excellency, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode for sports and vindicated our focus on grassroots sports development.”

The Director General of the Sports Commission, Babatunde Bank-Anthony said the athletes would be motivated and supported to excel at the fourth National Youth Games when it begins in Ilorin, Kwara State in September.
