LSNS, POS win football event at Lagos Head of Service Cup

The Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Agency (LNSC) and Public Service Office (POS) have emerged winners in the male and female categories of the Head of Service Games football event played at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan in Lagos.

The Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Agency (LNSC) and Public Service Office (POS) have emerged winners in the male and female categories of the Head of Service Games football event played at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan in Lagos.

LNSC defeated POS 3-1 to, while POS’s ladies beat the State Universal Basic Education Board also by 3-1. However, Health Service Commission and Ministry of Agriculture, however, finished third in the male and female categories respectively.

The winners were rewarded with the sum of N1 million, while the first runners up got N500,000 given to them by the Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who himself was at the stadium to watch the epic finals.

Individual talents such as the highest goal scorers, best goalkeepers and best players of the tournament got recognition and were duly rewarded.

In the tug of war finals, Lagos State Fire Service defeated LAWMA in the male category, while Fire Service again, won the female class by beating Lagos State Bus Services.

Speaking on the occasion, the Head of Service, Mr. Hakeem Muri Okunola, said the contest introduced 15 years ago, has largely achieved its objectives amidst fun, thrills and excitements.

Other dignitaries at the event included the Lagos State Deputy Governor, Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, Executive Council Members, Permanent Secretaries, Director General Sports Commission, Toyin Bolowotan, former Super Eagles’ international, Obafemi Martins among others.

It will be recalled that the yearly inter–agency football competition tagged: Head of Service (HoS) Cup, was introduced in 2006 with the aim of promoting physical and mental well-being of public servants and to identify talents that could represent the state, and also nurture the spirit of sportsmanship among the participating agencies across the state public service.
