Director General of Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC), Oluwatoyin Gafaar, has charged coaches of the sports billed to feature in the National Youth Games to ensure discipline in their camp.

Director General of Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC), Oluwatoyin Gafaar, has charged coaches of the sports billed to feature in the National Youth Games to ensure discipline in their camp.

The National Youth Games will hold from October 10 to 20 in Ilorin, Kwara State.

Speaking at the team’s closed camp in Bariga ahead of the Youth Games, Gafaar said, “as coaches, you have to be disciplined and also try as much as possible to instil it in the athletes.

“The sports commission will not accept any lapse or wrongdoing that will affect our athletes in camp and during the competition in Ilorin.

“All these athletes are our children and we must protect and take good care of them.

He added: “We have to improve on the total number of gold medals we won at the last National Youth Games. It is not good enough for us to continue to maintain a distant second position behind Delta State.

“The last term, Delta won over 100 gold medals and we only managed to win 22 gold medals. This time around, we must try to win up to 70 gold medals or more.”

Team Lagos’ closed camping will end on October 9, while the athletes are expected to leave for Ilorin the next day for the sixth National Youth Games.
