Man City hit Liverpool 4-1 as Tottenham return to winning ways

Two glaring errors from Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson gifted Manchester City a 10th successive Premier League victory and a five-point cushion at the top of the table.

Mohamed Salah’s penalty had cancelled out a close-range opener from Ilkay Gundogan, who had earlier blazed over from the spot, during a frenetic second half at Anfield.

However, Alisson twice made mistakes with the ball at his feet, presenting passes to Phil Foden and Bernardo Silva, who found Gundogan and Raheem Sterling respectively to put City 3-1 ahead.

Foden fired home an emphatic fourth to cap a clinical performance from Pep Guardiola’s side, who are now 10 points above fourth-placed Liverpool, after the reigning champions’ third straight home defeat.

Earlier, Heung-Min Son and the returning Harry Kane scored as Tottenham ended a run of three Premier League defeats with a 2-0 win against West Brom.

Kane had missed the last two games through injury – in which Spurs failed to find the net – but returned ahead of schedule yesterday. The striker had three huge chances in the first half, eventually sweeping home nine minutes after the break to see Tottenham ahead.

It took just four minutes for Son (58) to add the second after a speedy Spurs counter-attack – his first goal in six games – ending Tottenham’s losing streak and sending them back up into seventh in the Premier League table.

Elsewhere, Wolves and Leicester played out a goalless draw with England prospect 22-year-old James Justin
proving influential again.

Leicester was underwhelming in the attack, despite the return of Jamie Vardy, but have now secured nine clean sheets in the league this season, staying third in the table.
