Marrakech, Morocco to host CAF Awards for a second successive year
Lookman, Boniface, Osimhen battle with seven others for crown
The Confederation of African Football (CAF), yesterday, announced that the Moroccan city of Marrakech will host the CAF Awards for the second successive year. This will be the third time in a row that Morocco is hosting the ceremony, after a glittering star-studded African fanfare last year.
CAF said in a statement, yesterday, said that it would confirm the starting time of the ceremony billed for December this year. Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen and Asisat Oshoala hold the African Footballer of the Year and the African Women Footballer of the Year awards respectively.
Osimhen and his compatriots, Victor Boniface and Ademola Lookman are among 10 players shortlisted for this year’s awards. Other notable names include Morocco’s Real Madrid winger Brahim Diaz, and Borussia Dortmund’s prolific striker, Serhou Guirassy.
The list would be cut to three aspirants before the ceremony in Morocco.The CAF Awards recognise exceptional performances in both club and national competitions, culminating in the prestigious titles of CAF African Player of the Year in both men’s and women’s categories.
In addition to the Men’s Player of the Year award, other categories include Youth Player of the Year, Club of the Year, Goalkeeper of the Year, and Coach of the year.
