Muaythai federation seeks ministry approval on Sports festival

Muaythai Federation of Nigeria (MFN) has called on the sports ministry to grant the body a letter of approval to authenticate the federation’s participation as a demonstration event at the Edo 2020 National Sports Festival, which now holds in January next year.

MFN President, Comrade Paul Egonu told journalists in Port Harcourt at the weekend that the federation needs the authentication to step up preparation for the games.

He said, “the MFN in a two-page letter addressed to the sports ministry reminded the ministry that the approval letter has been a norm since the Edo 2002 and Ogun 2006 editions of the festival. The federation was given the go-ahead to feature as a demonstration sport at the forthcoming Edo 2020 early this year at a joint meeting between the main organising committee and members of the federation in Benin City.

“We are pleading for the letter of approval so that we can focus on planning well for the NSF.”He added that Muaythai as a demonstration sport at the National Sports Festival will be an opportunity for the federation to showcase the sport to the world.

Egonu said Muaythai, which in the past had done the county proud in local and international competitions, is hoping to return to the sports festival after years of absence.
