Enugu Rangers yesterday failed in their bid to reclaim the top spot in the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) when they lost 0-1 to Nasarawa United at the Aper Aku Stadium, Makurdi.

Rangers would have taken the lead on the log had they won, as current leaders, Wikki Tourists, also fell away to FC IfeanyiUbah. Rather, the Enugu team dropped to the fourth position, with Philip Azango’s 63rd minute header separating the sides.

FC IfeanyiUbah needed a 20th minute acrobatic effort by Jimoh Oni to beat Wikki Tourists in Nnewi.

Rivers United moved to second position on the table after a comfortable 2-0 home win against Plateau United.

Rivers United’s first goal came from the spot in the 31st minute through Bernard Ovoke, while substitute, Israel Daniel, made the points safe six minutes from time.

3SC of Ibadan had their pound of flesh in Ibadan where they trounced Kano Pillars 4-0. This was a revenge of sorts as the Kano team had early in the season beaten the Ibadan warlords 6-0.

Ifegwu Ojukwu started the rout when he put the hosts ahead in the early minutes, before the restless Ibrahim Ajani doubled 3SC’s lead in the 29th minute.

Sunday Adetunji made it 3-0 three minutes after resumption and got his second in the 60th minute.
