Nigeria, Argentina friendly game gets date, venue
Nigeria’s Super Eagles will take on world champions Argentina in Los Angeles, United States of America in an international friendly game.
The game is scheduled for Tuesday, 26 March, 2024, inside the 77,500-capacity Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
The game was initially billed to be held in Hangzhou, China also in March.
But Chinese sporting authorities cancelled it over a row involving Lionel Messi.
The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner’s failure to feature for Inter Miami in a friendly game against Hong Kong Select XI caused widespread anger among fans.
This will be the Super Eagles’ first game since the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire.
Next month’s game will be the fourth time the Eagles will face Argentina in an international friendly tie.
The first time both teams met in a friendly game was on June 2011 in Abuja which the Eagles won 4-1.
On September 2011, the two sides met again in another friendly this time in Dhaka, Bangladesh which the Argentines won 3-1.
Then on November 2017, in Krasnodar, Russia, both teams clashed with the Eagles coming from 2-0 down to win 4-2.
