Nigeria was yesterday drawn in the same group with old foes, Egypt, Sudan, and Guinea Bissau in Group D of the Cameroon 2022 African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The AFCON will hold from January 9 to February 6, 2022, in five Cameroonian cities.

At the draws held in Yaoundé, last night, the 24 qualified nations were allocated to four pots of six teams each, based on the latest FIFA ranking. The top four teams were allocated to Pot One, of which Nigeria belonged, along with the hosts, Cameroon, and titleholders, Algeria.

The remaining 18 teams were put in the three remaining pots according to their ranking in descending order. The 24 teams were then divided into six groups of four teams each, with the top two teams of each group to qualify for the round of 16.

Pundits believe Nigeria and Egypt will be between the top two teams alongside.

In Group A, hosts Cameroun got Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, and Cape Verde, while defending champions, Algeria, drew Sierra Leone, Cote d’Ivoire, and Equatorial Guinea in Group E.

2019 finalists, Senegal drew Zimbabwe, Guinea, and Malawi, just as Group C has Morocco, Ghana, Comoros Islands, and Gabon.

Tunisia, Mali, Mauritania, and The Gambia will contest for the two qualifying slots in Group F.
