Nigerian Sports Award will get better, say organisers

The Nigerian Sports Award is organised to promote all the sports in the country, celebrate and give recognition awards to sports stars who made Nigeria proud at various competitions.

Newly appointed chairman of the award panel, Dr. Kweku Tando said yesterday that they would build on the success of the past leaders, just as he hinted that some new categories would be introduced into the award.

Organisers of the annual Nigerian Sports Award have promised to make the event better despite the biting economy. The sixth edition of the award will hold on November 18 at Eko hotel, Lagos, and the organisers said yesterday that the event would live up to its billing.

The Nigerian Sports Award is organised to promote all the sports in the country, celebrate and give recognition awards to sports stars who made Nigeria proud at various competitions.

Newly appointed chairman of the award panel, Dr. Kweku Tando said yesterday that they would build on the success of the past leaders, just as he hinted that some new categories would be introduced into the award. Members of the panel includes veteran broadcaster, Fabio Lanipekun, sports analystn Mitchell Obi, Olympiann Falilat Ogunkoya and Olumide Oyedeji, while Kayode Idowu is the secretary.

Tando declared yesterday that the process of nominations for this year’s award had started, just as he urged Nigerians to use the opportunity to forward names of those they think have done the nation proud in various sporting events to the body. There are 20 different categories of award for this year.

After two years of missing out, the Governor of the year award is making a return for the 2017 Nigerian sports award. Others include Sports Athlete of the year, Coach of the year, Footballers (male and female) of the year, weightlifter of the year, tennis player of the year and sports and photo journalists of the year.
