Director General of the National Institute for Sports (NIS), Philip Shaibu, has pledged to fully implement the recommendations of the NIS Advisory Committee, which submitted its report titled “Road Map Report for the Revitalisation of Nigerian Sports.”
Shaibu described the report as a crucial blueprint for national sports development while commending the committee for its dedication and comprehensive work.
Speaking in Abuja after receiving the report from the committee led by Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) President, Musa Kida, on Tuesday, Shaibu said that he would work closely with the 32-man committee he inaugurated in July to ensure effective implementation of the recommendations.
He said, “I want to thank the chairman of the committee for this report and to assure the chairman and the committee that this will not be another document that will go under the table or on the shelf.”
We are ready to work, and we will look at all the recommendations and we’ll see how we can implement them for the benefit of our country.”
Shaibu added, “We will be releasing a list of persons in the advisory council for the implementation of this document, and interestingly, the chairman will still head the implementation.
“Although the committee has been dissolved, I will set up an advisory committee that will see to the implementation of this document.”
Shaibu also disclosed plans to decentralise the NIS by establishing zonal offices across the six geopolitical zones, a move aimed at expanding the institute’s reach and impact.
Earlier in his remarks, Kida described the report as a comprehensive document designed to address key challenges confronting both the NIS and the broader Nigerian sports ecosystem.
Kida said: “This document fills the gaps that have long existed in the NIS. And we sincerely hope that this report finds a little place to move the needle in the very long and big race that you are in, to revamp and revitalise the Nigerian Institute of Sports.”
