NPFL’s 2022/23 season kickoff tops IMC, clubs meeting
The Interim Management Committee (IMC) of the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) will meet with the 20 clubs listed for the 2022/23 season to ratify the kickoff date for the season and other matters related to the competition.
A source close to the IMC have disclosed that the season may begin on December 28 with the opening fixture, while the rest of the season will continue from January.
Yesterday, IMC’s Head of Operations, Davidson Owumi, in a circular notified the clubs of tomorrow’s meeting billed to hold at Sandralia Hotel, Abuja.
The circular noted that the meeting is being convened to perfect earlier interactions with the clubs on the new season’s roadmap.
The memo read, “sequel to our previous meeting and the need to finalise our conclusions, the IMC of the NPFL wishes to invite the 20 NPFL clubs to an interactive meeting that will finalise the way forward for a smooth running of the 2022/23 season.”
The two bodies met in November and agreed to have a final session to perfect modalities for the start of the season.
The IMC in conjunction with Dozy Mmobuosi Foundation earlier this month organised a pre-season competition featuring four teams as test run for the 2022/23 season.
Winner of the competition, 3SC of Ibadan, got N100 million as reward for their efforts.
At tomorrow’s meeting, the IMC and clubs are expected to, apart from the league programme, determine rewards for the clubs in the competition and modalities for the league.
