The National Sports Commission (NSC) has endorsed the forthcoming Legends Football Game, a historic exhibition match that will bring together some of Nigeria’s finest football icons and celebrated African football greats in Lagos.
Scheduled for November 8, 2026, at the Onikan Stadium, the match will feature 15 Super Eagles legends from Nigeria’s celebrated 1994 and 1996 squads against 13 African football legends in a contest designed to celebrate the enduring legacy of the continent’s football heroes.
Director General of the NSC, Bukola Olopade, described the initiative as a laudable effort to honour the players whose achievements brought immense pride to Nigeria and helped shape the country’s football history.
Olopade said the Commission was pleased to support an event that recognises the contributions of the legends while providing an opportunity for a new generation of football fans to appreciate the players who laid the foundation for Nigeria’s success on the international stage.
“We cannot celebrate our football legends enough. The global recognition and positive image they brought to our country through their achievements cannot be quantified. They inspired generations of young Nigerians and continue to serve as role models for aspiring footballers.”
“This is why the National Sports Commission commends the organisers for such a laudable initiative, which provides a platform to honour these great ambassadors of our country and celebrate their enduring contributions to Nigerian football,” Olopade said.
The Legends Football Game is presented by Toptier Sports Management in collaboration with Afreximbank and CANEX. The event was publicly launched in Lagos on 9 September 2026.
